    ……

Entitled Oscillation, the 3D printed dress served as the centerpiece for threeASFOUR’s ‘Quantum Vibrations’ collection, debuted at New York Fashion Week in July 2016. Drawing inspiration from source energies and primal, universal vibrations, the collection explores a series of graphic 2D patterns created in partnership with Travis Fitch.

The intricate piece is comprised of 30 individual and highly precise multi-color, multi-material 3D printed parts created via assembly of 270 unique design files. In ‘Oscillation,’ Stratasys 3D printing enables the visualization of 3D patterns as they truly are – complex, interwoven circles of energy, transforming in shape, color and flexibility as they radiate around the body. It allows the designers to recreate even the most intricate vibrational patterns and geometries without compromising the flexibility and wearability integral to the design.

The dress is produced not only in varying material thicknesses, but also in a spectrum of vivid color gradations, both techniques of which accentuate the complex geometries. The result is the construction of a multi-dimensional textural surface; a screenshot of a dynamic, oscillating waveform.
